Established in 2016, A Chikankari Closet is a celebration of Lucknow chikankari embroidery, inspired by my roots in Lucknow—a city renowned for its elegance, heritage, and Lakhnavi tehzeeb.

Chikankari is one of India’s most exquisite forms of hand embroidery, originating in Lucknow, often called the City of Nawabs. This timeless craft dates back to the Mughal era and is widely believed to have been introduced by Noor Jahan. Today, Lucknow remains the heart of authentic chikankari work, proudly holding the prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) tag since 2008.

What makes chikankari embroidery truly unique is its intricate craftsmanship featuring over 40 traditional stitches like tepchi, bakhiya, murri, phanda, and jaali. These delicate techniques are inspired by Mughal floral and architectural motifs, often enhanced with embellishments such as mukaish work, gota patti, cutdana, and pearls. Every chikankari garment is meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans, making each piece a timeless work of art truly, poetry on fabric.
